This pattern is for a delicate triangular stole made up of separate motifs and crocheted in cotton.
This is a free 1972 vintage crochet pattern.
Triangle measures about 68in across top with 48in sides plus 11 3/4in fringe
Each motif measures 4 by 4in worked on No. C crochet hook.
14 balls Coats & Clark ONT “Speed Cro Sheen”
No. C crochet hook
Using No.C hook ch7. Join into circle with ss.
1st round Ch3 to form dc, * ch2, 1dc into circle, rep from * 10 times more, ch2, ending with ss into 3rd of first ch3. 12 spaced dc.
2nd round Ch 3 to form first dc, *ch3, 1dc into both loops of next dc, rep from * 10 times more, ch3, ending with ss into 3rd of first ch3. 12 spaced dc.
3rd round *Into next loop work 1sc, 1hdc, 1dc, 1hdc, 1sc, rep from * 11 times more, ending with ss into first sc. 12 shells.
4th round Ss across next hdc and into dc at top of shell, *ch7, 1sc into both loops of dc in next shell, rep from * 10 times more, ch7, ending with ss into first of first ch7 instead of 1sc. 12 loops.
5th round *Into next loop work 4sc, ch11, 4sc to form corner, into each of next 2 loops work 4sc, ch3 to form picot, 4sc, rep from * 3 times more, ending with ss into first sc.
Work as given for first motif until 4th round has been completed then join to first motif as following:
5th round Into first loop 2nd motif work 4sc, ch5, place WS of both motifs tog and join by working 1sc into 11ch corner loop of first motif, ch5, return to first loop of 2nd motif, work another 4sc to complete corner join, *into next loop work 4sc, ch1, 1sc into matching picot of first motif, ch1, 4sc into same loop of 2nd motif, rep from *once more, then into next corner loop work 4sc, ch5, 1sc into 11ch corner loop of first motif, ch5, another 4sc into same loop of 2nd motif to complete corner joining, work remainder of motif as given for first motif.
All further motifs should be worked as second motif and joined in the same manner and in same sequence as shown on the chart, noting that corner loops are joined with 1sc on RS whether these are 2,3 or 4 corners meeting.
When all 66 motifs have been worked and joined, work 12 half motifs as following:
1st Half Motif
Using No. C hook, ch7. Join into circle with ss.
1st row (RS) Ch3 to form first dc, *ch2, 1dc into circle, rep from * 5times more. Turn. 7 spaced dc.
2nd row (WS) Ch3 to form first dc, * ch3, 1dc into next dc, rep from * 4 times more, ch3, 1dc into 3rd of first ch of previous row. Turn. 7spaced dc.
3rd row Ch1, *into next ch3 loop work 1sc, 1hdc, 1dc, 1hdc, 1sc, rep from * 5 time more. Turn. 6shells.
4th row *Ch7, 1sc into dc of next shell, rep from * 5 times more, ch7, ending with ss into last sc of last shell.
Turn. 7 loops.
5th row (RS)- worked with 11th motif – ch1, 4sc into loop of half motif, ch5, place WS of both motifs tog, 1sc into corner loop of 11th motif (marked A on chart), ch5, 4sc into same loop of half motif to finish corner, *4sc into next loop of half motif, ch1 1sc into ch3 picot of 11th square, ch1, 4sc into same loop of half motif, rep from * once more, 4sc into next loop of half motif,ch5, 1sc onto corner loop of 11th motif (marked B on chart), ch5, 4sc into same loop of half motif to finish corner, **into next loop of half motif, 4sc ch3, 4sc, rep from ** once more, then into rem loop work 4sc, ch11, 4sc to form 3rd corner.
2nd-122th half motifs
Work as given for first half motif and then join in same manner and in sequence as shown on chart.
Using No. C hook, beg at first corner of half motif No.12 with RS facing and work as following:
1st round Into center ch of ch11 loop work 1sc, *ch10, 1sc into ch3 picot, ch5,1sc into next ch3 picot, ch10, 1hdc into sc joining corner loops tog, rep from *along edge to last corner of 1st motif where instead of 1hdc work 1sc into center of ch11 loop, then rep from * along other side to last loop on first half motif, ending with 1sc into center ch of ch11 loop, then work across half squares as follows:* 5sc into rem half of corner loop, 1sc into each of next 4sc, **3sc into next loop formed by side of st **,rep from ** to ** once more, 2sc into center ring, rep from ** to ** twice more, 1sc into each of next 4sc, 5sc into first half of corner loop, rep from * 11 times more, ending with ss into first sc.
2nd round *10sc into ch 10 loop, 5sc into ch5 loop, 10sc into ch10 loop *rep from * to *along first side to point, work 3sc into 1sc of previous round to turn corner, then rep from * to * along other side to end of first half motif and work along half squares as following: ch4, **skip 1sc, 1dc into next sc, ch1, rep from ** to last sc, ending with 1dc into last sc. Turn.
3rd round Top edge only – WS facing, ch1, *into next sp work 1sc, ch3, 1sc, thus forming a picot, rep from * to end of top edge. Fasten off.
Cut 4 strands of yarn 40in long, fold in half and thread through both loops of first sc at top of side edge from WS to RS, pull ends through loop thus made and knot. Rep this every 5th sc along both side edges, except at corner loops either side of triangle point where knots should be made every other sc thus making 5 knots on each side of the point with 1 knot in the middle of the 3sc. When all strands have been looped through, separate strands from each knot into grs of 4 and tie every 1 1/2in to the adjoining strands first on one side and then the other to form diamond shapes. Make 6 rows of knots, then trim fringe to measure 11 3/4in from edging.
Run in all ends. Pin stole out to required measurements and press under a damp cloth with a warm iron.
