These slippers will come in handy when you want to play Santa’s elf on Christmas morning, or if you are really into silly slippers and enjoy
bells on your toes, a must if you have rings on your fingers.
The free crochet pattern is on the easy side so all of Santa’s little helpers could whip up a pair for the whole family. This crochet craft doesn’t have to be reserved for the holidays though, fans of garden gnomes will be big fans too.
MATERIALS Bernat Berella “4” (4 oz. balls) 1 / 1 Bernat – Aero afghan hook size 6:00mm (J) or any hook that will give the stitch gauge given below. 1 Bernat – Aero crochet hook size 6:00mm (J). Bells if desired
GAUGE: 4 sts = 1 inch 7 rows = 2 inches
NOTE: We would suggest that a slipper sole be inserted in the slipper.
NOTE: These slippers are made using the Afghan Stitch.
Using afghan hook, ch 46 sts loosely to measure 11 1/2 inches. Work even in afghan st for 5 inches.
Row 1: * Work to last 3 sts, sl hook under next 2 upright bars and draw up 1 loop ONLY (1 st dec), draw up a loop in last upright bar.
Rows 2 and 3: Work even in afghan st. Repeat from * 5 times more – 40 sts. Piece should measure 10 inches. ** Work across row to last 6 sts; take off loops. Repeat from ** 3 times more – 16 sts. Work 1 sl st in each st across row. Fasten off.
FINISHING: Fold piece diagonally,matching straight edges. Sew these edges together. Sew these edges together. Sew across adjacent side for 4 inches from corner. Draw up toe tightly and fasten on inside. Fold down top. Using crochet hook, work 1 row sc around top of slipper. Fasten off. Steam lightly.
TASSELS: Make 2. Cut piece of cardboard to measure 3 1/2 inches. Wind yarn around cardboard 20 times. Cut ends. Fold in half and draw through top point which has been folded down. Pull ends through loop. If desired, sew on bells as shown.
