Original 1968 and reworked in 1989.
This ultra-simple. lightly shaped, sleeveless sheath dress with squared neck is worked in a luster ribbon yarn and an easy alternating treble pattern. The length is easily adjusted.
MATERIALS Avocet Soiree: 17(18:19) 50g balls
6mm (4) crochet hook.
TENSION 4tr over 2.50cm (1 inch) in width
STITCHES 1. trebles: 2. double crochet.
SIZES To fit bust 86 (91:96)cm [34(36:38)inches].
Actual measurements; bust 89(94:99)cm [35(37:39)]; hips 94(99:104)cm [37(39:41)]inches
length 84cm [33 inches].
Figures in brackets() refer to larger sizes.
ABBREVIATIONS alt-alternate; ch-chain; cont-continue; dc-double crochet; dec-decrease;
sl.st-slip stich; tr-treble; yrh-yarn round hook.
With 6mm (4) hook make 76(80:84) ch. Yrh, put hook into third ch from hook and work 1tr in this and all subsequent ch to end of row, 2 turning ch. 74(78:82) tr.
Row 1: 1tr in space between tr of previous row, 1tr in turning ch2 turning ch.
This row forms pattern.
Cont straight in patt taking care to keep the same number of tr sts on each row until work measures 43cm [17 inches] or desired skirt length. Then, every alt row dec 1tr at eac edge until there are 70(74:78) tr. Work straight for a further 23cm [9 inches].
Sl. St across 5tr, work to last 5tr, 2 turning ch, turn.
Sl. St across 3tr, work to last 3tr, 2 turning ch, turn. 54(58:62) tr.
Work straight for 18cm [7 inches].
SHAPE NECK AND SHOULDERS
Sl. St over 14(15:16) tr, work center 26(28:30) tr, sl. St to end. Fasten off.
Work as for Back until armholes have been shaped. 54(56:58) tr.
Work across 14(15:16) tr, 2 turning ch, turn.
Work straight on this side until is measures same as back to shoulder shaping.
Miss center 26(28:30) tr, attach yarn to 14(15:16) tr from opposite armhole and work to correspond to other side. Fasten off.
TO MAKE UP
Sew side and shoulder seams. Work 1 row of dc around neck edge and around armholes.
